BIRN Group is investing in additional production capacity in Denmark. Through its subsidiary ULDALL, the company is acquiring the production facilities of the former Ferrodan foundry in Skjern. The investment is intended to meet rising demand, strengthen supply security, and lay the foundation for further growth.
BIRN Group is expanding its Danish production capacity with the acquisition of the former Ferrodan foundry in Skjern. This is being carried out through ULDALL in Vejen, which is part of BIRN Group and has experienced significant growth in recent years.
The primary reason for the investment is rising demand, which has put pressure on ULDALL’s capacity. With this acquisition, the company gains an additional 15,000 square meters of production space and the ability to rapidly increase production.
- The acquisition of the former Ferrodan foundry means we can quickly and significantly increase our production capacity to keep pace with the rising demand from our customers. Our goal is to double our production capacity, says Dion Brun, Sales Director at ULDALL.
ULDALL currently has about 60 employees and produces approximately 1,500 metric tons of cast iron annually. Once production in Skjern is fully operational, the workforce is expected to grow by about 15 employees.
Investment in Danish and European industry
For BIRN Group, this investment is also part of the group’s long-term efforts to strengthen its position as a supplier to European industry. The challenges in global supply chains in recent years have increased the need for stable and competitive production capacity closer to customers.
- At group level, we are increasingly viewed as a key strategic supplier to European industry. The geopolitical challenges of recent years have shown that global supply chains are vulnerable, making it more important than ever to maintain and expand production in Europe, says Flemming Juel Jensen, Group CEO of BIRN Group.
The investment will enable ULDALL to keep pace with the growth of existing customers and make room for new ones. At the same time, the acquisition helps preserve production capacity and foundry expertise in Denmark.
– The investment not only ensures future growth for ULDALL and BIRN. It also helps retain Danish expertise, Danish jobs, and industrial capacity that is vital to Europe’s resilience. We will continue to be the preferred partner for cast iron solutions, and that requires us to have the necessary capacity, says Flemming Juel Jensen.
The plan is for production at the foundry in Skjern to resume around the turn of the year.
